Astin Privacy Policy

Astin (“we”, “us”, “our”) is an AI-assisted notebook that helps you capture personal information, ingest documents, and retrieve insights using on-device storage. This privacy policy explains what information we collect, how it is used, and the choices you have when using the Astin mobile application (“App”).

Information We Collect

Astin stores only the information you provide in the App:

• User profile details: such as the display name you supply during onboarding.
• Notes and uploaded documents: text that you type, paste, or ingest via file import or URL. These records are saved to the device’s internal storage and indexed locally to support retrieval-augmented responses.
• Support requests: when you contact us through the in-app form, we collect the email address and message you provide so we can respond.

The App does not collect your phone number, precise location, contacts, photos, or other personal data unless included in the content you choose to store. Astin does not access external storage after the latest release.

How We Use Information

• Deliver core features such as indexing documents, answering queries, and rebuilding your private knowledge base.
• Send your prompts and selected context to third-party AI providers (currently Groq) to generate answers when you initiate a query.
• Process support emails through EmailJS when you reach out via the contact form.
• Maintain the health of your local data store and display analytics within the App.

Data Storage & Retention

All notes, documents, and embeddings are stored on the device in private application storage. We do not transmit or retain this information on our servers. Content remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App. Using the “Clear” actions in History or Settings removes the indexed data and the associated files from internal storage.

Third-Party Services

Astin integrates with trusted providers to deliver certain features. These services operate under their own privacy policies:

• Groq Cloud — used to process AI prompts and deliver model-generated responses. Only the text of your query and the selected context from your documents are shared when you initiate a request.
• EmailJS — handles outbound support emails when you contact us from within the App.

We do not sell or share your personal information with advertisers or data brokers.

User Controls

• Use the delete controls on the History screen to erase stored documents and their embeddings, which also clears the corresponding on-device files and caches.
• Disable or remove your API keys in the Settings screen at any time.
• Uninstalling the App removes all remaining on-device data managed by Astin.

Security

We implement runtime safeguards to help protect your data, including HTTPS enforcement for network calls, blocking of insecure protocols, and on-device integrity checks. Only authorized API keys configured by you are used to communicate with AI providers. Despite these measures, no mobile application can guarantee absolute security; please protect your device with a PIN, password, or biometric lock.

Children’s Privacy

Astin is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and we ask that minors do not use the App without permission from a parent or guardian.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy to reflect new features or legal requirements. When changes are made, we will revise the “Last updated” date above and provide in-app notice if the updates are significant.
